At band camp

I would assume you got the reference. Just not the band you're thinking of

Changing just a little, you'll notice.

This memory is from camping. If you're actually reading the blog first, the titles will be backwards, but I'm guessing you can manage that just fine.

I still don't care for camping, but this memory kind of explains part of the reason. The memories from Earth that are tied to this brain do show many camping excursions. And a lingering interest in acquiring a camper. Tractor first, brain, tractor first.

I recently was sitting in a restaurant that has fairly large portions. The type of portions that are more in-line with two meals rather than one. And, you do pay a bit more there as well. At least for what they are calling a single meal.

As I was alone, I simply read through the news on my phone as I ate. Listening to everyone around, of course. And that's where this is coming from. One conversation I listened to had to do with those portion sizes and the cost.

It's so much food, how can anyone eat all this? It costs so much for a single meal.

And of course the finale: Why don't they just make smaller portions and charge less?

And that's how you know someone doesn't understand business and finance. I won't pretend to understand Earth business finance beyond a beginner level, but I certainly know enough here.

Back in Earth-memory-land, I can see a memory about a certain pizza place. In it, there's a particular memory about cost. At that time, the total cost of the ingredients for the largest pizza with the most toppings was around thirty five cents. The pizza sold for around fifteen dollars. There were specials where you could drop that to seven or ten, which most people did. But that is still a nice margin, you may think. Not as juicy as it looks. But, that isn't the point and the memory doesn't break down the overhead very well. Employees were making around six dollars an hour, give or take, which was above minimum wage. Guess how common that is? More than most would want you to know.

But, this is more about thinking the cost of that huge meal was in the food itself. Cut the amount of food in half, cut the price in half? Sorry, that doesn't work. Cut the amount of food in half, and maybe save a buck. No, the answer is not to gorge yourself and eat both meals in that single sitting and take it home with you. Something this table could have done to save the payload capacity on their motorcycle. It struggled with the load, to say the least.
