The Valley

I'm not sure why she was sad, but I'm glad the rain was over

This was an interesting day. Sort of. Even on Earth, I walk a lot. As I was walking today, with a destination, I heard a loud popping sound, then noticed someone around the back of a nice looking pickup. This person, a homeless never-do-well, then scrambled away. Quickly. I was much too far away to help, but close enough to notice the bright green skateboard tied to his backpack. Turns out, that's all I needed. As for the truck, it's nearly new tire had been slashed. After contacting the owner of the truck, a military veteran still in rather good condition, I continued my walk to pick up my own truck which was almost a mile away for some maintenance I'm unable to perform myself. I knew the police would be called, but they are usually slow.

On the way, I came across a different homeless man and his dog. I knew this man reasonably well, and he had always been polite and courteous, so I asked him about the tire slasher. Of course, he knew who it was and didn't like him very well. Bad image and all. So, he agreed to help the guy and speak with the police about the slasher. Not surprising, the slasher was well known to the police.

I would say all is well, but that wasn't the intent. You never know where you'll find help or information, so it pays to remain courteous and kind to your fellow man. The homeless man with the dog will be well taken care of in thanks. He has no intent of leaving the streets, he enjoys his freedom. But, he certainly made another friend.

Friends are something I have always relied on. Not so much for support, but for helping goals. Everyone has a different definition, but anyone that will follow you through torrential rains into a hidden valley being ravaged by a depressed goddess has earned some respect. Turns out, in this case, that the reason for the sadness wasn't overly clear.
