Military Time

For most, a career in the military wasn't the best foundation. We had little use for wars. We had a need for farmers, though. But, there were always those that favored the chance for vast riches. It was obtainable. If you lived long enough. Our combat was hand-to-hand. It was always honorable, and usually sporting.
For me, it was about learning. I would need these skills later in my life. This is how I see Earth's armies. A good place to learn skills useful in life.
